March, 2011, my husband and I had a wonderful stay in Villa Pavone Reale, despite the spring rains. The villa is beautifully furnished and maintained with all modern conveniences. The upstairs living area was perfect for curling up with a book on rainy days. And the villa’s location in the hills above town invited long walks when the sun came out.
The area surrounding Cairo Montennotte offers several interesting day trips. We enjoyed separate trips to the seaport of Savonna, the pre-Iron Age caves at Balzi Rossi, glitzy Monte Carlo and just on the other side of the Italian-French border, the medieval town of Eze, perched on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
For eating out locally, I highly recommend Ristorante “La Bruschetta” (tel. 019-504023) and, for an absolutely amazing gourmet meal, “La Locanda Dell’Angelo”, Via Roma, 32 in the neighboring town of Millesimo (tel. 019-585657). In fact, even casual local cafes reflected the Italian philosophy that good living is the point of existence!
Next year we will be back, with plans to visit Turin, a university town and the capital of the slow food movement.
